The first session of this class will be held in February 2013. Classes generally start the first Monday of every month and continue for 4 weeks.

Our Photoshop 101 course is back by popular demand with a new instructor (Melanie Burk) from the Nicole’s Classes team!

This class is geared for photographers, bloggers, designers, and creatives, and goes over the basic principles you need to successfully work with photos.

First you will learn how to upload photos, organize, and sort those photos in Bridge & Camera Raw. You will then learn how to make basic adjustments in camera raw (with details in exposure, temperature, contrast, sharpening, brightening, and hue & saturation) There will also be a focus on how to batch your photos and apply these adjustments across multiple photos, saving you time & effort.

Not only will you learn basic adjustments, but you will learn how to make edits and retouches (such as editing facial blemishes, and removing unwanted objects from the background). Students will also learn how to make selections from their photos, work with layers, make duplicates, or mask unwanted things out. There is also a focus on how to make a professional black and white image, and how to enhance a photo to make it really shine.

Finally, we take it one step further by teaching you how to add type, create mood boards, and merge photos together in collages. You will leave the class knowing how to successfully adjust photos and then prep those photos for your home, blog, business, newsletter, or wherever you might need them.

Essentially you will learn how to make your photos shine!

PLEASE NOTE: This class is taught in version CS6. This course teaches the full version of Photoshop, not PS Elements. If you own Elements, this class will not apply to your program.

The Nicole’s Classes application is a downloadable program you install on your computer. (The link to download will be provided the day the class starts.) Learning is divided into 4 weeks and within those weeks you can learn at your own pace, anytime, anywhere. There are no set class times, though homework is due every Sunday night and there may be scheduled chats with the instructor. Our classes are flexible, fit into most any schedule and we happily welcome international students!

Photoshop 101 has no prerequisite courses. All you need is the Photoshop program installed on your computer and you’ll be ready to go! If you don’t have Photoshop yet and are unsure if it’s the right program for you, Adobe offers a free 30-day trial.

Photoshop 101 has a textbook that is an excellent companion to the online course. With fun images and step-by-step instruction, you’ll be able to use this book as a reference long after you’ve finished your course!

Textbooks are not included in the price of the class, but may be purchased together for a discount. Please enter ONLINEBUNDLE at checkout when purchasing the course and textbook together to save 7% on both items (not valid on sale products).

“I just wanted to let you know that I’ve really enjoyed the class and feel that I’ve learned quite a bit in a short period of time—going from knowing almost nothing about Photoshop to feeling like I have a pretty good foundation of basic knowledge to start using and becoming proficient with the program, so thanks!” —Christina, Photoshop 101 student

“Thank you for a wonderful class. It was well worth my time and money. I have appreciated both the text content and the video content and homework. As I finished tonight, even my husband was amazed and said it’s time to celebrate! ha ha! It has taken me a long time to grasp photoshop and I finally feel like my foot is in the door and I am ready to swing it open with endless possibilities because I finally understand the techniques! Great job explaining and teaching.” — Stacey, Photoshop 101 student

“I learned SO MUCH from your class. I have tried books, online tutorials, and YouTube videos to learn how to use Photoshop and I got so much more out of just week 1 of your class! I wasn’t even opening images the correct way before. The video instruction with your personal take and tips, combined with your feedback on homework assignments, make it feel like I had a customized one-on-one class. I especially loved how you would repeat the keyboard shortcuts in each tutorial—they are so handy and efficient! With your repeated instructions, they became second nature to me in a very short time.” —Mary, Photoshop 101 student
