WHAT TO EXPECT

We eat with our eyes. It’s true! The kitchen is full of the most wonderful sensory experiences like smell, taste and touch. We love to share these experiences, and a picture of food can be the perfect medium for these enticing and inspirational moments.

Food stylists are responsible for the amazing food creations on television, product packaging, in magazines and cookbooks. This special master class will give you the opportunity to learn the tricks of the trade and position you to achieve effortless looking dishes that are camera ready.

Tara will show you the tools you need in both a basic and extensive styling kit and share tips on the business side of food styling. She will explain the differences in the styles and techniques you may need for advertising, publishing or recreational posting. You will learn the importance of prop selection, cooking for the camera angle, ingredient choices and preparation. Among other things, Tara will demonstrate methods for hot and cold drinks, the perfect slice of cake, photo-ready ice cream and how to get that exquisite drip of syrup and pancakes on film.

Please note: you will need to have access to a moderately stocked kitchen to fully participate in this course, as well as:

— Bag or toolbox to assemble your own styling kit
— Camera (of any kind) to photograph your assignments to upload to the student gallery for Tara’s feedback

HOW IT WORKS

Our platform has recently changed. We are excited that this new platform will bring us a better learning system, which is available online through your browser and it’s mobile friendly!

We are no longer offering set course dates. Instead, you will receive a link to view your class within 24 hours of your purchase. Now, you can begin your class almost immediately or whenever the time is right for you!
Learning is divided into 4 weeks and within those weeks you can learn at your own pace, anytime, anywhere. There are no set class times during the week, though homework is due every Sunday night for instructor feedback, if you choose to participate in that portion of the class. Students also have unlimited email access to the instructor for the duration of their course, to ask questions or get help when they’re stuck. Our classes are flexible, fit into most any schedule and you have extended access to the course material after the class is over! This allows you to reference back to things later when you need a memory refresher.
*It’s important to note that your 4 weeks of teacher access begin once you start watching the first video of Week 1 content. So be sure to start that first video when you’re ready to learn!
