This week, our Tuesday Tip comes from our Food Styling 101 teacher, Tara Bench! She’s giving us the secret to styling hot food:
For various reasons, sometimes your food is not piping hot when you shoot it. Even for hot foods, I often style everything cold, or room temp. Case in point, my Warm Polenta and Chicken Salad–if I styled it with hot ingredients my greens would wilt, making it a sad picture! (Even though in real life I serve it warm and WANT the wiltyness, for eating).
Use olive oil, or glycerine, brushed on the highlights of meat, veggies, grill marks or edges to make cold food look hot and sizzling in your pictures!
