How to Look Good in Photos

Last week, I was asked to share my tips on looking better in photographs for KUTV’s Fresh Living. In the segment, we talk about posing and face shapes. Did you know that ever person has a masculine and feminine side to their face? Find out how to discover yours to look better in photographs by watching:

Some More Student Work

Fridays are always fun, because we get the opportunity to showcase some of our favorite student work. Check out these pieces and tell us what you think!

Tara is in our Photo 101 class. The hard edges of the broken glass and the lightning of this picture make it very eye-catching. Good job, Tara!

Cristin is also in Nicole’s Photo 101 class. We love this nighttime shot, especially with her use of focus and perspective.

And last, but certainly not least, Andrea created this birthday invitation. Her simple choice of fonts and colors made for a fun look!

That’s all we have for now! Happy Memorial Day, and enjoy the weekend. See you all again on Tuesday!

Nicole in the News

Today, I had the opportunity to film a great spot for KUTV Fresh Living. I’ll share this newest segment with all of you as soon as it’s released!  In the meantime, enjoy these photography tips from a couple of my other TV appearances:

If you know anyone (or if you yourself!) who is interested in taking a leap into the photography world, check out this video for some recommendations on my favorite cameras, lenses, bags, and more.  Need a gift idea?  Look no further.

And secondly, sometimes taking the perfect tabletop photo can be tricky.  Here I explain a formula of simplicity, consistency, and careful cropping in order to make these types of shots a little easier.

Two Talented Design Students

Our students have some serious talent.  Here’s a little peek of what they’ve been up to:

Silvia Garcia has mad skills in Illustrator and we’re so excited about these invitations she created that we just had to share!

Students were required to create a wedding invitation with no images so that they could focus on the words. We love that Silvia created not just one, but two awesome invitations.  She kept it simple, and they look so polished and professional.  Great job!  (Also, check out her blog to see the cutest cat ever!)

We also needed to shine some attention on Ann Loushin.  This month she is taking an advanced Illustrator class and we are so impressed with what she’s accomplished!  Her use of color and a love of simplicity has allowed her to create some stunning patterns.

Did we also mention that Ann is incredibly crafty?  Really, see for yourself right here.

Shooting Checklist

With all the craziness that can surround a photo shoot, it’s easy to forget an important step.  I put together this 5 item checklist to help photographers remember all of the tiny details for the best pictures!

This checklist is just the first in a series I’m doing.  So look out for the rest of these photography tips in coming weeks and make sure you collect them all!  Happy shooting!

In The News: Taking Travel Photos

We were pretty excited when our very own Nicole Gerulat was featured in a story on the Fox News website! Read the article here and see her tips on capturing the perfect candid moment of your child while on family vacation.  Summer’s finally here, so make sure you check it out and learn some new tips for preserving those upcoming memories for your scrapbook or photo album!

Our Students Are Keeping Busy!

Check out our most recent student work!

From student Jessica White, is this fun and modern flash card set for the periodic table of the elements! Jessica went above and beyond and created a set of cards that appealed to her inner science nerd. (Her words!) Great job, Jessica!

From KC Lemon, a Photo 101 student! We love the feeling of this photo! What a great moment to capture!

From Sydnie Freeman, an Illustrator 101 student! The first week’s assignment for Illustrator 101 is to create a poster using type. Here she has used the type on a path tool to create silhouettes of her family’s faces. Great creativity, Sydnie!
