You indicate 10 “Free” fonts, yet the very first one Wisdom Script you have to pay for????

    • 2

Janet- I should have clarified- I am sorry. On Lost Type, you have the option to give a donation. You can simply fill in “0″ there (or some money if you are feeling generous) and you will be able to download it for free. The same goes for all of those typefaces on that website. let me know if you have anymore problems!

      Michelle

If you type in $0 it will download. That’s how I was able to get it. I hope it helps!

  2. 4

yah, the first one Wisdom Script is supposed to be by donation…

    • 5

Annie- you don’t have to make a donation. Simply fill in 0 there and you are good to go! (Although if you end up using it a bit, a small donation is always nice!)

Hi! Thank you for sharing this. I am trying to find the cursif fonts of the bottom row of your image but it seems that from the link you can only download the fonts of the upper row. Do you know where I can find the other ones? Thanks again.

    Valentina

they are both lowercase actually but the fonts seem quite different. the f is in both rows and is different. I can only download the fonts on the top.

    • 9

Oh I see what you mean! No that was actually part of the design I did for the rectangle there. I chopped off some of the f to make some interesting white space in the design- so I can promise you it is the same typeface! Sorry for the confusion, but so glad you like the cursif typeface- its a good one!

    • 10

Valentina, you’re right. Looks like Melanie accidentally combined cursif and sofia. You are looking for sofia: http://www.fontsquirrel.com/fonts/sofia

Good catch! A post like this takes a ton of work, and it’s pretty easy to overlook something like that!

    • 11

Valentina- THANK YOU For the catch. Oh my goodness, as soon as Alma commented, I realized that I had used a different typeface on that bottom there. That’s what I get for working on it and checking up too late at night- I am sorry for the confusion. (and major blonde move) I updated the image so it’s all consistent now. For anyone that saw the other image-(or is curious) there is another fabulous typeface- sofia- that I was saving for next time. You can download that one here. There are just so many great typefaces that I get overwhelmed and excited to share them all. Thanks again Valentina!

I am so glad Melanie made this little mistake as I found out about Sofia, which I LOVE! Thank you so much for the amazing job you are doing!!!! Can’t wait to see your next fonts selection.

    • 17

Thanks for being so nice about that. Good thing that out of most mistakes comes wisdom! (In many different forms). Still so impressed with your good eye!

The fonts Écolier and Cursif are how we learn how to write in the first grade in French schools. :-) Teachers write exactly like this on the black board.

    Thank you Melanie!

Just a question, how many fonts do you recommend using for blogs? What I mean is, to keep things cohesive, do you recommend only sticking to 2-3 fonts in blog posts, or is it okay to change things up, since my main font & template will always be the same.

  11. 21

Thank you for the links! :)

  12. 22

Neat! Though, you might want to make a note in the post that Ecoleir, Channel, Wisdom Script, and Learning Curve are *NOT* free for commercial use.

Once I download these fonts, how do I access them in illustrator?

    thank you so much!

I think that Lobster would be a great addition to this list, or maybe the sequel. It’s available for free through font squirrel. There is also a Lobster Two, but I’ve yet to take a really good look at it.

    Thanks so much! :)

Beautiful fonts, thanks! You use them so well here too – your blog is beautiful! I’ve got this linked to my fonts roundup post too today, for inspiration!

Hi there Melanie – I know it says a commercial license would have to be purchased before using – I’m supporting a nonprofit initiative called Let’s Change India 2014 and I’m wondering if there’s any way we could use one of these fonts without purchasing a commercial license. Thanks in advance for the response!

Hey Helen! That is definitely in the gray line there.. that is something that I would contact the individual font designer for. I have had to do that before, and it has been really helpful. If I don’t hear back from them, I just choose a different typeface. My rule: it is better to be safe than sorry :) How good of you to do that, I love doing work for nonprofits. My guess is that it would be ok, but again, reach out to the type designer. (Normally they aren’t too hard to get a hold of via twitter or email)
